New Online Course (Primary): Online Safety and Digital Citizenship
18th October 2024
All primary teachers and school leadership teams will be interested in our new online course on online safety and digital citizenship for primary teachers.
By the end of the course, you will be able to describe digital citizenship and online safety in the context of the primary classroom and recognise how to embed it into your teaching. You will also be able to identify relevant classroom resources to use and adapt to support these important topics.
The course takes three hours of study time. It is available throughout the school year, 24/7, including during school holidays. Because of this, you can complete it at your own pace and according to your own timeline.
About the content of this new online course
Following on from an earlier online summer course introducing digital citizenship, we have shortened and updated the content to reflect new developments. These include the recently launched Bí Cineálta procedures.
Teachers will gain the knowledge, resources and confidence to teach digital citizenship and to empower pupils to be safe, ethical and responsible online. You will explore what it means to be a good digital citizen and how you can integrate key themes on this subject into your teaching. The three key themes are Being Online, Wellbeing Online and Rights Online. These themes cover a range of topics such as media literacy, privacy and empathy.
Oide Technology in Education collaborated with our Webwise colleagues to create the course. Accordingly, it provides access to a wealth of online safety resources from Webwise.
Oide Technology in Education creates all online course content to the highest professional standards, in consultation with subject matter experts. It includes interactivity to increase engagement, good practice videos filmed in Irish schools and expert interviews.
Croke Park Hours
If your school management enables independent study as part of Croke Park hours, you can ask for this new online course to be factored into the school’s plans. This will enable you to engage with it as part of your fulfilment of Croke Park hours. A certificate is available once you complete the course according to the course requirements, should you need verification.
