Digital Video for Analysis and Assessment in PE

Video Overview

Interview with Teacher about the integration of technology into her PE lessons. The pupils use their own phones to scan QR codes that direct them to a skills video. They then use tablets to record their peers executing the skill. Google Forms is used as a means of self-assessment.

Description

A second year mixed class engaged in a PE lesson on badminton. The aim for the lesson was to develop the skill of an overhead shot. Students looked at how technology can be implemented in the lesson. Students took part in the physical practising of the skill, while 2 students in each group recorded and coached their classmates. The 2 recording students scanned the QR code and shared the video of the skill being demonstrated with their group. Tablets were used for the recording of students practising the skill using the app ‘Video Tiger’. Videos were rewatched in slow motion to pinpoint the areas where students found difficulty and peer assessment took place. Video Tiger is a recording app for sports, where up to 6 players can be analysed at a time for assessment purposes. Student led differentiation took place by allowing students to change groups based on the recorded skills and students could then work in groups of more suitable abilities. At the end of the lesson, students scanned a QR code and individually completed a self-assessment feedback form for the teacher.
