Leading Digital Learning Series: Online Platforms – Post Primary

In this video from our Leading Digital Learning series, post primary teachers and Technology in Education team members discuss the use of online platforms in schools. Niall Larkin, Senior Leader for Digital Technologies, praises the effective use of online platforms by post primary schools to support teaching, learning and assessment.

How are schools using online platforms?

Lorraine McCool, Dominican College and Paul Byrne, St. Patrick’s Classical School explain the ways in which they make use of their online platforms.

Last year, Lorraine’s school  ran all of their parent teacher meetings on Google Meet using Google Calendar slots for parents to book in. In addition to this they use their platform for meetings. For example –  parent meetings about subject options, TY, and incoming 1st year students. This year they plan on using a hybrid approach to board of management meetings, with some online and others face to face.

Paul’s school use their learning platform to communicate directly with students.

Communication with Parents

As well as using their platform to communicate with parents, Lorraine’s school also creates google sites for specific events. Recently they used google sites effectively to provide parents with all the information on an upcoming school tour. Paul’s school has an app through which they communicate directly to parents.
