6th October 2023
7th October marks the start of EU Code Week 2023.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced coder, Oide Technology in Education has a range of resources and professional learning opportunities available to help you to explore coding and computational thinking in the primary and post primary classroom. Read below for more details.
Introduction to EU Code week from Anthony Kilcoyne, Divisional Director Digital Technologies – Oide.
EU Code Week Competition
In collaboration with the EU Code Week Ambassadors, we’ve put together an impressive lineup of prizes for EU Code Week. When a teacher contributes an activity to the EU Code Week Map, they automatically enter a draw for a chance to win coding and computational thinking prizes. Our goal for this year is to surpass the 1000-mark for pinned activities on the map!
To add an activity to the map please go to https://codeweek.eu/ and follow the steps in this video. For updates and to keep track of the weekly draw results, be sure to follow @CodeWeekIRL and @OideTechinEd on X. Your engagement and contributions will make a significant difference in making EU Code Week 2023 a resounding success!
Online Course in Coding and Computational Thinking
EU Code Week presents a great opportunity to develop your interest and consider classroom applications. We have a free, e-tutor supported, short online course to help you get started. Although designed for primary teachers, post primary teachers are also welcome to enrol.
Our Coding and Computational Thinking Hub
What is computational thinking? Where does coding fit within the curriculum? How do I access professional learning and classroom resources on these topics?
With EU Code Week approaching, you can find the answers on the Coding and Computational Thinking hub on our website. Suitable for teachers at all levels.
EU Code Week Workshops
This year, there are a diverse selection of workshops tailored for primary school teachers. The programme features two distinct face-to-face workshops, each catering to specific class levels. The first workshop is tailored for junior and middle classes, while the second is designed for middle and senior classes.
These workshops offer a comprehensive array of activities, encompassing both plugged (technology-based) and unplugged (non-digital) approaches. Additionally, we are excited to announce the inclusion of a webinar in our lineup, which explores a wide range of activities and resources suitable for educators at all class levels.
These workshops serve as an ideal gateway to kickstart your participation in EU Code Week within your school community. Please contact your local Education Support Centre to learn more about these workshops.
