This course aims to support you in teaching online safety in your classroom by providing you with skills, confidence and resources. It will enable you to raise awareness of and prevent potentially harmful online behaviour by your students through your implementation of the SPHE curriculum at Junior Cycle, TY and Senior Cycle levels. The content of this course is in line with the revised SPHE curriculum.

You will use and adapt free Webwise resources that engage students on topics that are relevant to their lives and important to their wellbeing.

Webwise resources featured in this course deal with topics such as sharing inappropriate images, online harassment and developing more positive relationships with each other.

The course was developed by Oide Technology in Education in collaboration with our Webwise team.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • Raise awareness of online safety with your class and prevent potentially harmful online behaviour.
  • Enable learners to understand risks and threats in digital environments.
  • Enable learners to protect themselves and others from possible dangers in digital environments.
  • Select suitable resources to address relevant online safety topics and implement the SPHE curriculum.
  • Plan an SPHE lesson activity using Webwise resources.
  • React immediately and effectively when learners’ wellbeing is threatened in digital environments.

Course Content

The course content covers several key areas in online safety for students and how Webwise resources can be used to support them.
