ICT and PE: Orienteering with an App
Video Overview
A PE Teacher explains how he integrates technology into his lessons. He uses i-orienteering, where the students have to scan QR codes and follow a physical map. Once they have finished the course, their times are noted and compared each week as a means of assessment.
Description
Students engaged in PE lessons on orienteering with the use of ICT. The app iOrienteering was used alongside a physical map to allow students to engage in the lesson. Students used QR codes to log their timings throughout the orienteering process. Students focused on outdoor activities, team work, collaboration and problem solving skills in this lesson. Mapwork skills and timing skills allowed for cross curricular integration to occur. Assessment of the lesson consisted of teacher questioning, noting timings and watching timing progress each week. The school’s acceptable usage policy for using technology / phones in lessons is essential to ensure appropriate use of ICT for learning to occur.
