Video Overview

Description
A secondary school principal discusses the ICT in use at this school. When the school opened first, each class had an interactive board and computer. The teachers felt that students were not actively involved in learning using ICT. The school got tablets, in which teachers spent time learning how to use them for teaching and learning purposes. The level of engagement in lessons increased due to students’ use of tablets for learning and teachers’ access to apps during lessons. Students in transition year began solely using tablets and the use of textbooks was removed. The school arranged an information evening for the parents of these students, explaining the reason for and benefits of this decision. The school understood the importance of strong Wifi when adapting to teaching via technology and therefore a boost in the Wifi was essential. The school aims to adapt teaching and learning to include the use of tablets in each subject. When creating the school policy for teaching and learning via ICT, it was important for the school to factor in the thoughts and input from students, teachers and parents. The principal speaks about the importance of investing wisely in the technology to avoid additional costs for potential repairs.
