The deputy principal of the school discusses the use of IT in teaching and learning. A key focus of this school is the collaboration between teachers to upskill in this area. The school have decided to use their Croke Park hours for teacher collaboration for learning. Each department meets every month, with the whole staff meeting every six weeks. During these meetings, teachers discuss how students learn, how assessment occurs, feedback that is provided to students and how IT can enhance each of these areas. The school provides a high level of support and drop in clinics to assist teachers with their upskilling in technology for learning. During meetings, teachers are offered the opportunity to ‘Show and Tell’ any new skills or approaches they have come across in regards to using technology for teaching. The school began a ‘peer observation’, where teachers could observe one another to build on their own skills by seeing the effectiveness of IT strategies in other classrooms. The school understands the value in collaborating with external bodies also, with an open relationship with I.T.T., where lecturers come in to speak with students. The school became part of the Apple Distinguished community, opening up more opportunities for collaboration and the sharing of tech ideas for teaching and learning.
