Video Overview
A German teacher uses technology in her language lessons. She discusses how the students complete oral tasks by recording them on their phones. As a language teacher it is important to be able to hear every one of the students and that is possible with this method.
Description
A secondary school language teacher uses technology in her German lessons with first year students. Students do not use textbooks for learning. Students can use their own personal mobile devices to engage in the technology elements of the lessons. The teacher understands that not all students will have a device so students often work in partners. Students complete oral tasks and discussions recording themselves on their phones. First, students write their script with their partner and later record. Students have the opportunity to listen back to their recording to both self and peer assess their work. The teacher finds value in these tasks as she can listen to the language being spoken by the students throughout and make her own assessment notes as necessary. The teacher can listen to the students both in the class, and to the recordings via the computer after class. As student tasks and activities are completed using IT, students can share their learning with parents at home also.
