Description
A fifth year home economics class use ICT in their learning. Students answered a question on Mentimeter at the start of the lesson for the teacher to understand the students’ current knowledge on the topic of protein. Students logged into their Google Classroom account, where they accessed a video on the recipe for the lesson. QR codes were used throughout the lesson to access the recipe video at any point as it was needed. The teacher also used Wizer.me to question students at the end of the lesson on their new learning. Students used their own devices in this lesson to take photos of their progress of the recipe. While the food was baking, students completed the written tasks and uploaded their work to the school drive, using the app ‘My Drive’ that each student has downloaded on their personal device. The teacher highlights the use of ICT in home economic lessons as valuable, due to the time it saves for assessment purposes. The teacher mentions that Mentimeter, Kahoot and Splice are useful for in class assessments. By setting up a Twitter account, the teacher has noted that she can collaborate with other teachers and get ideas and best practices from others.
