Description
A secondary school Irish class look at the topic of directions. Students begin in groups of three, selecting two areas in the school and record themselves giving directions to these areas. Each student has access to their own iPad, with a range of tools being used in the lesson – video recorder, iMovie, editing apps and Stop Motion. Students upload their final video to Schoology, where their classmates peer assess. Students have the opportunity to listen to the spoken language of themselves and one another, a significant element of language learning. In a lesson of this approach, freedom and trust of the students are important. Time constraints and ensuring that the videoing content is complete within the lesson is a significant element in the classroom management. Students have the opportunity to collaborate and learn from their peers in this context. The teacher required resources can be used year after year and the use of technology can save time, once they have initially been created.
